Oh, since last week I have been noticing that my vision is somewhat blurry especially in my left eye. So, the next day I went to the optical shop and had my eyes checked. To my surprise, I found out that I am short-sighted (myopia) - my left eye was already -2.00 degrees and my right was -0.50 degrees.
I needed a pair of eyeglasses and I must say that finding a pair is similar to finding love.
I literally went to 5 different optical shops to try on each and every pair of glasses that looked appealing to me. Finally, I shortlisted my 5 pairs.
The first pair were from Tiffany & Co. They had a cat eye design and almost perfect for my face shape. However, the design also included large crystals on the side. 😞 big minus point as I am the type of person who buys something that lasts and unlikely to replace them unless they break. And the crystals feature although cute, looks more like fashion jewelry which apart from durability issues, has the unfortunate issue of me getting sick of the design over time.
The second pair were from Prada. The design was pretty also, although it looked better in the display cabinet. After a few times of trying them on, I realised they weren't for me. Hence, I moved onto my third pair and another brand called Bvlgari . Well, this pair was pretty nice. I liked it a lot but then whilst trying on the Bvlgari, I saw this brand called Lindeberg in a similar design. In a word, these were amazing. Not only were the frame elegant but they were also extremely light. After spending a very long period of time in front of the mirror with these lovely frames on (I must admit, I looked like a verified Narcissist), there was something missing that I couldn't explain.
The final pair were from the Tom Ford brand. The first time I put them on, the feeling I had was so good - it is difficult to describe and I don't think I can even explain it. They were the perfect eyeglasses that I was looking for - simple, chique and refined. Not too flashy. I was originally after a cat eye design although I wanted these glasses to last so went with a more classic design.
Hey!!! I found the one!!!!!!! The one and I am so happy!!!
However, I still have this problem of which lenses to choose from to accompany my new found love from Tom Ford.
Lenses are tough to choose from. Unlike frames, the marketing to consumers for this mundane product is relatively poor. Usually, one has to rely on recommendations from the opticians (hoping they don't up sell you to the most expensive lenses that has no incremental benefit). Since I will only buy one pair of eyeglasses, I wanted something that would fulfil my needs - clarity, durability and reflective-free (for when photos are taken of me). The choices I had were plenty although I ended up sticking to the 3 most renowned brands - Hoya, Essillor and Carl Zeiss. I ended up going for the Essilor lenses due to their reputation (in particular their Transitions product line). The lenses are superb. In addition, with modern lenses from quality brands most have anti-scratch, anti-reflection and anti-glare coatings.
